This holiday is based in the mountain village of Trevélez in a small, family run hotel and a favourite with painters. The hotel is situated in the high part of Trevélez where traditional life continues into the 21st C.  The hotel’s restaurant is perhaps the best in the Alpujarra with a good variety of traditional and vegetarian dishes, well presented and with good views to enjoy while eating.
Spain's highest village, Trevelez (1600 m), sits near the head of a long, deep valley below the peninsula's highest mountain peak, Mulhacen (3481 m) . The naturally air-cured hams produced here are famous all over the world for their moist texture and sweet flavour. We include all meals on this trip and will be able to treat you to some interesting bar lunches as we visit other valleys and villages in the area.

Plein Air Pastel

Pastel is the ideal medium for both the complete beginner and outdoor painting. It is an exciting, immediate method with little interruption between eye, hand and paper. There is no mixing of paint and no brush or tool between the hand and the pigment. Pastel painting is direct, spontaneous and flexible. This gives the beginner confidence as there is less chance of failure and also enables the artist to capture the changing landscape without the delays of colour mixing and interruptions of the creative process. A plein air pastel painting can normally be completed in about 3 hours enabling the artist to cope with the constantly changing light and weather. Pastel can incorporate both drawing and painting making it a very versatile medium.
