The accommodation chosen for this holiday is in the showpiece valley, Barranco Poqueira.

The pension is a pleasant welcoming place with excellent facilities bearing in mind the "economy" tag. There is a lounge and breakfast room, a games area with pool table, and ample sun terraces for those after walk snoozes.

It provides breakfasts and a bar service only, but there are 4 restaurants within a few minutes walk and the neighbouring village of Capileira with its many and varied eating places is only 15 minutes walk away.

The walking is stupendous. The routes taken will always be by consultation and will take into account the groups abilities and wishes.

Most of the walks will be in the Barranco Poqueira but on some days we will use private transport to make walks in the neighbouring Tahá de Pitres and the valley of the Río Trevélez.

A default plan for the walks would be.

1. A linear walk from the accommodation heading east towards Busquistar. 20minute bus ride back. 12 to 23 kms depending on options taken. A limbering up walk which also gives a view of the neighbouring valley of the Rio Trevélez and its spectacular gorge. Bar lunch possibilities.
2. A circular walk exploring both sides of the poqueira valley and all its villages. An adaptable walk which can have a lot of climbing in and out of the valley but with rewards of excellent views and a wealth of interest.
3. Higher into the valley of the Poqueira with the Sierra Nevada looming ahead. About 16kms with 1000m. of climbing.
4. A circular walk from Trevélez, the highest village in Spain. The walk takes about 6 hours and gives an opportunity to view a thriving, interesting village where traditional life continues, while the new industries of tourism and ham add a little life.
5. A circular walk from Busquístar. 16kms and about 800m of climb and descent. A chance to get a look at more typical mediterranean landscape and take advantage of the village of Cástaras for a bar lunch.
