Granada is the European City most recently occupied by the Moslem inhabitants of Spain. It has a spectacular architectural legacy from that 14C period and many earlier remains. The 16C Brought new rulers and culture that give the city it's renaissance heritage.
The Sierra Nevada looms over Granada and its south face forms La Alpujarra. A spectacular region of deep gorges and high hills, well watered by the melting snows above and scattered with villages. The terrain is mountainous but the walking is strenuous rather than difficult and we provide shorter as well as longer walks.
In both locations we offer a choice of accommodation, Hotel or Pension. Both choices are good value for money, in convenient locations and are tried and tested.
The city accommodation is central and within 15 minutes walk of the Alhambra and the modern city.
Practical information on how to visit Granada City is provided to enable you to quickly get your bearings. Detailed descriptions and maps of 3 city walks take you through the mediaeval, historic and modern parts of the city centre where café and street life can be sampled.
Travel information. There are direct flights to Granada from UK regional airports, Gatwick, Stansted, Liverpool and Nottingham. Within Spain there are flights linking Granada with regional capitals. Bus and train links are good with all Spanish cities. flight information
Weather The villages of the Alpujarra are at about 1400 metres above sea level, Granada city is less high and tends to be hotter in summer. Hot or cold days are to be expected in spring and autumn, as are cold nights at this altitude. Winter is usually dry and clear. Most rainfall comes in spring or autumn but don't ask us when! Summer days are hot (too hot for walking) except at high altitude, well above the villages. Summer nights are perfectly comfortable unlike many lower areas of Spain.
